Without a Clue (1988)

I like Sherlock Holmes. I've read all the stories, bar the one found in an attic a few weeks ago, I have them all as BBC radio plays and my collection of the movies numbers 19. As I say, I like Sherlock Holmes.

This comedy from Thom Eberhardt, a man who actually made a film called I Was A Teenage Faust, sees Michael Caine as a washed up actor employed by Ben Kingsley's Watson, the real brains behind the operation, to be the public face of the books. Holmes is a layabout and Watson, having finally had enough of his drinking, fires him but when the plates for the five pound note go missing he must persuade him to return and take on both the case and the evil Professor Moriarty.

This is great Sunday afternoon fodder and has a nice little cameo from Peter Cook. Good fun all round.
