The Drop (2014)

Tom Hardy and Noomi Rapace star along side James Gandolfini in his last film, a tense crime drama set in Brooklyn.
The story isn't bad but really if you don't work out exactly what's going to happen in the end within the first ten minuets then there's something wrong with you and because of this, and the fact that Hardy's accent, though very good and well practiced, is so gruff and drawn out as to be almost inaudible in places, the movie feels very slow.
As far as Gandolfini goes it's nothing we haven't seen before, he was a bit of a one trick pony but he knew his trick well.
Tom Hardy is good, so is Noomi Rapace and it's not a bad effort at all for a young director but I'm getting a little tired of this broody style and would like either something new or some of the moralizing we got from films like White Heat and Scarface.
Cliched and tired but still gripping enough to be enjoyable.
