Jake Gyllenhaal is nicely psychotic from the get go in this odd but original story of an ambulance/police car chasing tv news reporter who'll do anything to get, or indeed create the story.
The production is glossy and clever and romps along at a fine pace but the edit flicks through shots so quickly at times that cinema goers will be having fits in the isles and the action is so entirely focused on Gyllenhaal that everybody else is just a bit player.
If you remember that they're in the film then Rene Russo is fairly good, though unattractive, Bill Paxton is wasted in a nothing of a part and Riz Ahmed is almost...but not quite.
As a directorial debut for Dan Gilroy it's very good and on top of that it only cost around $8.5mill to make, money it made back on it's opening weekend so we can expect to see more from him.
I think I enjoyed this film, Gyllenhaal is good and the movie as a whole looks great, but it has no real message either way and in the end I was left feeling nothing more than a little dizzy.
It did look good though.
