The Keeper of Lost Causes (2013)

This atmospheric Danish crime thriller, based on Jussi Adler-Olsen Dpt. Q series of books, sees a washed up cop put in charge of the cold case department with his new and only assistant Assad. He quickly latches on to the case of a missing woman and manages to put the backs up of his colleagues, superiors and pretty much everyone else he meets along the way.
Though slightly standard Scandinavian cop stuff in the style of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and Wallander series, and feeling a little more like a feature length episode of a tv show rather than a film in its own right, it's quite twisty, well written and for the most part well acted.
Fares Fares, the truly international Lebanese actor, is great as Assad but I do wish Nikolaj Lie Kaas would stop scowling, just for a minute.
This is a good and really watchable film of its type and I look forward to watching the next episode.
